Anatomy of a fall / Anatomie d'une chute
151 minutes is long. Especially for a movie with little action. But it enraptures you until the last scene, and you don’t see the time go by.
The movie is about a literal fall: a man Samuel falls to his death, and is found by his blind son in the snow outside his chalet in the mountains. Was it an accident, a suicide, or did someone push him?
And a figurative fall: when the trial of his death explores the nature of his marriage with Sandra as she becomes a key suspect in the case. Many themes come up – of guilt, career and success, infidelity, imbalance in the relationship, but of course love and intellectual connection. It’s messy - and that’s what we identify with and draws us in.
Sandra Hüller is incredible.
This Guardian review summarizes quite well how I feel following the movie: www.theguardian.com/film/2023…
